Week 4 in class one

06 Mar 2024

It has been a good week in class 1.

The children have been desperate to show off their love for phonics and reading. The children love their phonics sessions, they are superstars at reading the graphemes and words in the sessions. At the end of the phonics lesson, the reception and year 1 children write three words. they then check their own against the model and after they check their partners, giving it a tick or helping them to fix.

Meanwhile the year 2s are excelling on the reading books. They are becoming fantastic fluent readers!

In Science, we have been looking at the properties of materials, specifically balls. We started off by naming the types of balls we know such as tennis balls, football, bouncy balls. We thought about the properities of a ball: size, colour, texture, bounciness, whether it floats or sinks. The children then created an experiment where they tested the bouciness of balls. We began by laying out a range of balls and made a prediction of which ball would be bounciest.

We enjoyed World Book Day on Thursday! We spent time talking about books that we have enjoyed reading and then used these to create a T-shirt. On the front, we drew a picture to represent the book and on the back we wrote what we liked about it.

In our areas, we have enjoyed making masks, writing cards for Mother's Day and creating farm sheds.
