Week 3 in class one

21 Sep 2022

We have had another lovely week in class 1. The children have been particularly enjoying phonics and history.

In Phonics, recpetion have been learning some new phonemes. They have enjoyed playing games and practising their formation, they particularly like writing in the sand. While year 1, have been revising some of the phase 3 content from last year. They love showing off what they know and playing games to apply their knowledge.

We have started reading in our groups. This happens three times a week and the children are in small groups with an adult to support them. The children have enjoyed sharing their books with one another and reading new stories.

In History this week, we have looked at the materials toys are made from. We investigated whether these materials had changed by looking at some old toys and comparing them. The children also sorted toys by material and age. It was lovely to hear them discuss their reasoning with one another and share ideas. We considered why the materials had changed.

Finally, we have been exploring our learning through our areas. The children have been making lots of lovely pictures, role playing with our small world and even experimenting with the dye from sticks. The children noticed that when put in water the water changed colour so they left it overnight to see what would happen. We made predictions and looked carefully in the morning and it had changed to a brighter red.

Next week, we will begin to look at the technology element of our question which the children are very excited for.

Have a lovely weekend.
