Week 6 - Hinduism week

15 Jul 2021

This week in class 1...

We have been learning about Hinduism this week. We began the week by finding out about the God they worship, Brahman and the three Gods who show the different qualities - Brahma, Shiva and Vishnu.

The children enjoyed looking at the similarities and differences between the appearances of different Gods and Goddesses and showed good concentration to choose their favourite and colour them in.

We then found out how people who follow the Hindu religion worship. We found out they often have a shrine in their home.

We looked at pictures and watched a video clip to find out the things that a shrine might have:

statue of a God or Goddess
pictures
food as an offering
flowersdecorations

We completed jigsaws which revealed different Hindu temples which are called a Mandir. We found out about the things that happen in a Mandir and the rules they follow when they visit.

We finished the week with a Hindu visitor who shared a story, taught us how to say hello in India, told us about the animals of India and the importance of being kind to all living things.
