Lots of fun in Class 1

07 Feb 2024

We have had a really excting week in class one with lots of learning.

Tuesday was Safer Internet Day so we learnt all about how to stay safe online using some stories. The children identified key messages such as:
  • Keep safe by not giving out personal information
  • Don't talk to people we don't know.
  • Don't accept messages etc from strangers.
  • Only go on sites and apps that our grown-ups have identified as safe.
  • Tell a trusted grown-up if something worries us.
The children enjoyed this learning and had lots of fantastic ideas.

On Wednesday, we concentrated on learning about Children's Mental Wellbeing week. We listened to the story The Boy, The Mole, The Fox and The Horse. The sky message of the story was: to remember we are all special and important and we should show kindness to ourselves. The children shared ideas of how they can show kindness:
  • Do things that make us happy.
  • Understand that we have good days and bad days.
  • Eat health foods.
  • Exercise.

On Thursday, we had Art day on Textiles with a link to Chinese New Year. This year is the year of the Dragon so we used this to inspire our artwork. Before that, we learnt a little bit about Chinese New Year. Following on from that we learnt how different textures can be used in art then designed our Dragon. Finally, we used collage to make lots of beautiful Dragons!

The reception also enjoyed making pancakes ahead of Shrove Tuesday next week. The children wrote a shopping list of ingredients they needed: eggs, milk, flour, chocolate sauce and syrup. They washed their hands then got stuck into weighing and mixing but the best bit was eating them!

In our areas this week, we have been loving using the small world and home corner. In the small world and block areas, we made a waterslide, a farm and a dinosaur park! In the home corner, we have been getting ready for school then roleplaying phonics. The new Miss Thewsey is very funny!
