Autumn 2 - Week 1

05 Nov 2020

Welcome back!

After a lovely half term break we are back for Autumn 2 and it is going to be busy - and
lots of fun too smiley

This week, our role play area has become a castle and the children have had lots of fun dressing up as knights, princesses and dragons! We shared the story of Jack and the Beanstalk and talked about the characters, we also planted some bulbs and thought about how to look after plants - we don't think they will grow into a beanstalk though!

Remember, remember, the 5th of November...
We have been learning about bonfire night and why it is celebrated. We created lots of different firework pictures and models - here is some of our lovely artwork.

In Phonics we have met some new graphemes:
j              x               v
and we revisited the tricky words that we have learned over the last half term too. We are getting very good with our reading yes
This half term the children continue to read in class each day but there is a slight change that you will notice in their reading books. At the beginning of the week we will be having a whole class shared story, then we will be having a guided reading session in small groups. These sessions will not be recorded in the yellow books. There will still be a comment from school each week to let you know how the children are getting on with their reading and please use the yellow books to tell me how they are doing and what they are reading at home.

In maths, we have been sorting things into groups. We looked at things that were the same and grouped objects by colour or shape.

At home:
1. Super sorting - can you collect some items from around your house and sort them into groups - you could use socks, toys, cutlery, shoes. You could sort them by size, colour, type. Don't forget to send me a picture on Evidence me smiley
2. Send me a picture of you reading a book - it can be any book you like. Where is your favourite place to read? Dont forget to practise your phonics too. There is an activity in your book bags if you want to use that.
3. Can I please have a picture of your favourite toy or teddy bear. Next week we are going to be talking about our special things.

Have a super weekend, See you all on Monday!
