Robots and toys

02 Nov 2022

Another fun week in class 1!

In Maths, this week reception have started 3D shapes. To spark this topic, the children made robots thinking about the different shapes
of everyday materials. We used boxes, tubes, bottle tops and much more to create these magnificent robots.

After, we began looking at what allows a shape to roll. Through experiementing with different objects around are classroom and our 3D shapes, the children identified that the shape needs to be round to roll. Other objects may slide e.g. a cube.

In year 1, the children have been focusing on the composition of 10. The children have used a range of resources to explore number bonds this week. The children found double sided counters particularly helpful. Once we had found several bonds and wrote out the number sentences, we thought about whether we had found all the bonds. We tried different strategies to ensure we had all of the bonds.

In History, we have finished our topic on toys and technology. To showcase their learning, the children made models and posters. They enjoyed making a camera, TV, mobile phone or toy using lots of everyday materials in our creative area. They thought about the features of their model and discussed the changes of the product. In year 1, the children also made posters which outlined the changes in the different areas we have learnt about: TVs, mobile phones, cameras and Toys.

The children have also enjoyed exploring their areas, particularly the home corner that has been updated over half-term. You'll be pleased to hear, the children have been developing their cooking, ironing and tea making skills!
