This week - 14.5.21

13 May 2021

This week in Class 1...

You may have noticed that some seedlings have arrived at home this week. These are our sunflower seeds that the children have been keeping an eye on in school. We talked about how they have changed from a seed and measured to see how tall they have grown. The tallest shoot was 10cm tall. Please continue our sunflower challenge at home and see how tall they grow. We would love to see updates on their progress through photos and measurements sent by email or on Evidence me enlightened

The children have been using the creative area to paint their own sunflower pictures too...

The outdoor area has been popular this week - when it has not been raining! The children have been enjoying investigating the tubes, funnels, crates and bricks...

We also talked about the Muslim festival of Ramadan and Eid al Fitr which has been celebrated this week. We learned that during Ramadan grown ups will fast - not eat - during daylight hours and that Eid is a celebration with family and friends which comes at the end. The beginning of Ramadan and the festival of Eid begin on the first sighting of the crescent moon.

In phonics this week we have been learning the new tricky words

we        me       be       like       have     come      some     was

For extra phonics practice this week, the children are coming home with a little game to play.

In maths this week we have been counting to 20. We have looked closely at the teen numbers 15, 16, 17, 18, 19 and 20. We have spotted smaller numbers within each number and looked at what the number looks like on the 10 frames.

Have a lovely weekend smiley
