Nosterfield Nature Reserve
18 Jun 2024
Class one has a fantastic time at the nature reserve. They were very knowledgeable about the animals and plants already which wowed the staff there. They were very enthusiastic and enjoyed all elements of the day.
We started by walking down to the plant nursery where we split into two groups, year 2 and then reception and year one. We each completed an activity, had lunch then swapped over.
The first activity was to look at some wild flowers and plants. We spotted many company plants and some of the insects that live on them. We also thought about why some plants were sticky or spikey or had berries etc. we saw butterflies, dragonflies, ladybirds and much more. The year twos also did some bird spotting. They found two ospreys, a kestral and lots of other birds in the reserve.
We then went into the wood where we identified trees and made tree rubbings.
Meanwhile, the other group were looking at the plant nursery. We looked at plant at different stages of growth from seed to plants taller than us! Then we did some planting of our own, we each planted a nasturtium seed that we brought home. After that, we planted some flowers that would go in the lake. They had to be planted in sacks with gravel which would sink to the bottom and disintergrate. Finally we used clay to make prints of different leaves. These could be painted at home and hung up.
It was a brilliant day! The staff at Nosterfield were excellent and we are very grateful to them For organising such a fantastic experience for us.
