Geography and phonics
13 Jun 2024
This week has been the phonics screening week. Our year ones and some year twos have been completely the check this week which assesses their phonic knowledge. I am extremely proud of the hard work the children have put in. They have done extremely well and all tried their very best. The year ones, in particular, love phonics and are sad that heir daily sessions will soon be coming to an end. As a treat, the children enjoyed having a biscuit for all their fantastic work!
The reception also wanted to show off their super phonics! They have been working hard to read longer words with suffixes.
To start our geography topic on our local area, we went for a walk of the school grounds. This is part of our field work. The children considered what key parts of the school they could see and what might be shown on a map.
In PE, we have been completing a unit on athletics. This uses a range of skills from running to throwing. The children have enjoyed exploring short distance running thinking about technique. They have practiced and methods of throwing. Let's hope all this work helps them on sports day in a few weeks!
Have a lovely weekend.
