Week two in class 1
28 Feb 2024
It has been a bit of an unusal week in class one but we have been very busy.
In Science, we have been learning about materials and their uses. We began by thinking about the properities of some materials such as whether they are absorbant or waterproof. To test the absorbancy of the material, we investigated paper towels. We made a hyothesis such as more expensive paper towels will be more absorbent or softer products will be better. The children then talked about how to make the test fair so we decided that we needed to measure the amount of water using a pipette then time how long the paper towel was on the water for. The children also made tables to record their results. After investigating 5 types of paper towel, we found that tissue was the more absorbant.
We have also experimented with how to make a material waterproof. Wax is a good method for making a material more resistant to water. Last week, we looked at how this can be used to create artwork with paper. This week, we investigated how we could make materials waterproof.
In Reception, the children have been doing lots of writing. They are becoming more confident in using capital letters and full stops which is fantastic! Below are some pictures of them writing about spring, as you can see they are concentrating very hard and they drew some lovely pictures.
On Thursday the 7th of March, it is World Book Day. This is also our PE day with Mr Whitford so please could children bring their PE kits and we will change at school so that they can show of their characters. Thank you.
Have a lovely weekend!
