If I were in charge of the school
21 Feb 2024
In English, the year one and two children have been focusing on a poem called "If I were in charge of the school". We have analysed the poem looking for key features, the audience and purpose of the poem over several weeks. The children identified that the poem used adjectives to describe. We learnt about noun phrases which can be used in our writing to add detail.
This week, the children planned and wrote their own poems with the title: If I were in charge of the school. They really enjoyed this unit and had some very interesting ideas.
In Maths, the reception have been looking and measure. Within this, we have looked at weight and compares objects using scales. The children were superb at using the words heavier and lighter to descibe.
The year ones and twos have bee learning about money. They have wowed us all with the knowledge of money and their ability to recognise the coins and notes. Often, children find this unit challenging as we have shifted away from using money more but the children have been amazing. We have began to add money using the words pounds and pence. Please keep practicing at home!
In our areas, we have enjoyed making lots of lovely rainbows (we are desperate for some sunshine!). The reception have also enjoyed exploring their learning within the provision writing numbers and stories which is lovely to see.
A great first week back, class one!
I have several courses and meeting next week so I will be out of class. Ms Smyth will be covering on those days.
Have a lovely weekend.
