Maths and letters
07 Dec 2023
Class one have had a very busy week.
We had a fantatsic time at the Christmas fair on Wednesday. Our class won lots of prizes!
In Maths, the year ones and twos have been learning about 2D and 3D shapes. This week, we focused on how many sides and vertices a shape has and making or drawing 2D shapes. The children loved using rulers to draw their shapes, they were super. We know lots of shape names and can talk about their properities.
The Reception children have been learning focusing on the numbers 6, 7 and 8. We practiced forming each number, counted objects to match the number and discussed more and less.
In English, we have been writing letters. We broke down our letters into key parts and over several weeks practiced writing for each section. The children wrote about themselves, where they live, their school and so on to support them with writing a letter of their own.
The children also created plans to ensure we included each element:
- Address
- Date
- Greeting
- All about me
- Event
- Question
- Positive note
- Sign off
Finally, they wrote letters of their own. Many children chose to write to Santa or their friends.
In our areas, we have been making lots of dens, playing schools and getting ready for Christmas!
