A journey story in class one
11 Oct 2023
This week, we have been very busy. The children enjoyed the harvest festival on Tuesday. Thank you to all of those who attended and made it special.
In English, year one and two have been building up to writing their own stories. We used the story The Train Ride as our inspiration, from this we broke the story down into 6 plot points then used these same themes within our own stories. All of our writing included:
- starting a journey
- setting off
- what we can see on the way
- arriving
- enjoying the day out.
We also aimed to use a feeling sentence, speech and repetition. The children did a superb job and were very excited to write a story of their own, take a look below at some of our fantastic work.
Our new theme unit this week is Geography. We started to look at the United Kingdom and the countries within the UK. The children used atlas and maps to identify the different countries. Then we coloured in maps to show England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. The children have really enjoyed this learning so far.
In our areas, we have been making lots of lovely pictures. We have discovered the jewels in the creative area which add a little extra to our models.
The children have also been doing lots of building. They love creating farms and zoos for the animals. We made farm machinery as well.
Finally, we have been applying some of our learning in Maths to our play by experimenting with resources around the classroom to see whether they roll.
Have a lovely weekend!
