English and reading
28 Sep 2023
In English, we have been focusing on the story The Train Ride. We used this books as a stimulus for our writing. Each of our lessons was around a different part of the story, these were the sections:
- Boarding the train
- Out of the window
- Molly sees a farm
- Molly sees a hot air baloon
- The train stops
- A trip to the beach
We have been building up our learning to writing a story of our own. Within our lessons, we have looked at how to use adjectives, adverbs, questions and dialogue. On Monday, we had a beach experience in our English lesson. We thought about the activities we do at the beach such as building sandcastles, walking on the beach, eating ice cream. The children had such a fun morning at the beach! This got the children very excited about writing stories of their own.
On Friday, we began to plan our stories and then next week we will get writing.
The children have been working hard on their reading. The receptions have got stuck into phonics and are beginning to read some words. They are loving their phonics sessions and look forward to learning a new grapheme each day.
Year 1 have been revising the phonics they learnt last year. They are becoming such super readers and writers!
Meanwhile, the year 2s have been reading more independently. Many of them use AR which they are enjoying. Once they have read their book several times they take a quiz to check their comprehension. It is lovely to see how focused they are! Please keep sending in their books from home when they have read them several times so the children can take a quiz.
Have a lovely weekend.
