Maths and dinosaurs

In Maths, we have all been learning about numbers. Reception have learnt about numbers to 5, year one have focused on numbers to 10 and year two have been looking at numbers to 100. The children have really been enjoying this unit of work.
In reception, we focus on a new number each day looking at how the number is made, formed and practising our counting. The children get very excited! We like to go on number hunts around our classroom to spot numbers and find objects. We are super counters! We have also been learning how to form our numbers to 5, some are easier than others but we keep trying. Well done, reception!
In year one, we done lots of work with numbers to 10. We began by practicing our counting to and back from 10 and counting objects. Before moving onto, finding one more and one less than any number upto 10. I was so impressed with the year ones, they are fantastic at doing this mentally. Keep practicing and maybe try some numbers to 20.
Year two have been enjoying looking at some bigger numbers. We have spent time looking at how a number is made, with tens and ones. We used lots of base 10 to build numbers which was fun. Then we began to partition our numbers, splitting them into tens and ones. The children did a great job!
In History, we have been completing a unit on Dinosaurs. This week our learning was around Mary Anning, a famous palaeontologist from Lyme Regis. We read a story all about her life and how she found "curiosities" on the beach which she began to sell. Her greatest discovery was the first full skeleton of a Plesiosaurus. We created an information sheet all about Mary Anning to show our knowledge.
On Thursday, we became palaeontologists! To help us understand the process of excavation, we tried to get the chocolate chips out of some biscuits. The biscuits represented the rock that covers the fossil (the chocolate chip). Slowly, just like a paleontologist we chipped away at the rock to get to the fossil. It was very exciting!
In our areas, we have been very busy caring for our families in the home corner, building farms and getting creative by making lots of cards and painting.
Just a reminder that there is a meeting for phonics on Monday the 25th at 3pm.
Have a lovely weekend.
