Maths and planting
05 Jul 2023
This week in class one...
In year one, the children have been learning about money. We have focused on recognising money and its value then counting small amounts of coins. The children have loved looking at the coins, finding their value and other features. The children spent lots of time doing this before counting coins to find the total amount and choosing coins to match a sum of money e.g 15p.
Meanwhile, reception have been enjoying their learning on shape. The children then spend time selecting, rotating and manipulating shapes which was great fun. They have spent time selecting, rotating and manipulating shapes. They have composed and decomposed shapes so that children recognise a shape can have other shapes within it, just as numbers can. To do this, we looked for the shapes within the pictures.
In Science, our focus is on planting. The children have been considering what a plant needs to survive. To support their learning, we have planted some cress and we have created an experiement to test whether plants need light. We have placed some of our planted cress on the windowsill in the sunlight and some in the dark cupboard. We are going to keep observing the growth of the cress over the next week or so to see what happens. To make it fair, we are measuring the amount of water each plant will get as well. The year ones, will be writing up their observations over the coming week.
We have also been busy in are areas, making dens, teching phonics, starting fires and practisiting our numbers and writing.
Another busy week finished, not many more to go before the summer! Thank you for your continued support.
Have a lovely weekend.
