DT and RE in class one
22 Mar 2023
We have had a large focus on RE this week as we have come to the end of our unit
on Judasim in our learning in the classroom and we also enjoyed a whole-school RE
afternoon for our religion of the year (Judaism). The afternoon on Wednesday was
focused on Passover. We began the afternoon in hall with an overview of Passover
before returning to our classrooms to learn about this special celebration in more detail.
We listened to the story of Passover:
-
- Over 3,000 years ago, a group of Jewish people called the Israelites were being kept in slavery by the ruler of Egypt called Pharaoh.
- Moses told him that if he did not release them, God would make terrible things called plagues happen to the Egyptians.
- But Pharaoh did not listen, so the plagues came.
- This is where the name Passover comes from.
- These ten plagues. God is said to have told Moses to tell the Israelites to paint blood on their doorposts. This way, the angel would know that Jewish people lived there. It would passover that house and not kill the first-born child.
- A man called Moses went to see Pharaoh many times to ask him to let them go, but Pharaoh refused
Reception then ordered the events of the story and retold it by looking at images.
Whist year one created a story map and wrote down key events.
On Thursday, we began our DT unit on Food which will continue next week. We worked with class two learning all about healthy eating. Our focus was on the food groups, we began by looking at the eatwell plate. To follow our learning up, we organised food by their food groups.
Finally. we have still be observing our caterpillars grow. Unfortunately, they have been slower than we expected at developing but they have grown a lot! The caterpillars will hopefully create their chrysiles this weekend and then we will see the next stage before the Easter holidays.
Thank you for another fabulous week. Have a lovely weekend!
