Maths in Class one
08 Mar 2023
Another eventful week in class one! Thank you for all of your support over the last few days.
In Maths with Year 1, we have been focusing on measuring length and height. We begun by measuring objects with cubes as a non-standard unit of measure. We loved measuring objects around the classroom and each other! Towards the end of the week, we started to use a ruler to measure in centimetres. The children carefully lined up the object or line with zero to support them to measure. They were excellent and really enjoyed this unit of learning!
Reception have been learning about patterns. We started off by looking at what a pattern is and reading a story Pitter Pattern which is full of patterns. The children loved finding the patterns in the illustrations of the books. We then moved onto continuing premade patterns before making our own. The children were brilliant at this!
On Monday, a very special parcel arrived. Inside the parcel was some caterpillars! The caterpillars are in a tub with all the food they need for the next few weeks. The children have been watching all week as they have been eating lots and growing bigger. The year one children have been writing up these observations in our Science. In a week of so, the caterpillars will make a chrysalis. The children are very excited about watching them grow!
We will keep you updated as they grow.
Finally, please can children have a PE kit in school on Tuesday (instead of Friday) next week for a special Science PE lesson.
Have a lovely weekend.
