Pancakes and a Tea Party
22 Feb 2023
This has been a very busy week in class one but it has been full of excitement!
On Tuesday, we celebrated Pancake Day by making pancakes, of course, but we also learnt about the meaning behind Shrove Tueday. We found out that
Pancake Day began as a part of Shrove Tuesday, a traditional feast day in the United Kingdom before the start of Lent on Ash Wednesday. It has involved into Pancake Day as it is the last day to use up ingredients before Lent begins.
On Wednesday, we started our new topic in science. Our big question is 'How do animals, including humans survive?' We began our learning by reading a story called A Tadpole's Promise. The story introduced the concept of a life cycle which would be a significant focus in our topic. We then went on to look at the lifecycle of a chicken starting with the yolk. On Thursday, we leant about the life cycle of a human, starting with a baby. To introduce this, we matched some pictures of the grown-ups of school as babies to them now. We loved looking at the pictures of them! The children then made a timeline of their own growth.
As you may have heard, class one have been working very hard to fill a jar of marbles as once its full they get a very special treat of their choice. They have earnt these marbles by being kind to one another, working extra hard and being the superstars they are. On Wednesday, we finally filled the jar! We had a vote on what the treat would be and finally the children deicided that they would like to have a tea party. On Thursday, they had tea, juice and biscuits accompanied by "Tea Music". They really enjoyed it. Well done, class one!
I wonder what they will choose next...
Have a lovely weekend!
