Writing Fact Files
18 Jan 2023
In English, we have spent several weeks focusing on fact files, building our knowledge up to finally, this week, writing a fact file of our own. We began by looking at examples to create success criteria. We considered the purpose and audience of fact files.
Last week, we learnt all about African elephants as this would be the animal we focused on in our fact file. The children loved researching elephants, using computers, videos and books to find information. We wrote these facts down and then put them into a plan our writing.
Finally after weeks of work, we use our knowledge of elephants to write our fact file. The children have worked very hard on this piece of work and it really does show. Reception wrote their ideas down in sentences whilst year one took a more structured approach, describing the elephant, noting where they live, the food they eat and so on.
In our areas, this week we have had lots of fun riding the bikes, using the play dough and getting creative. On Monday, we had a very small about of snow but it caused lots of excitement. The children found a snow pit to play in!
We made play dough biscuits, carefully rolling out the dough and then using cutters. We made rabbit beds, cars and lots of other wonderful pieces of work in the creative area.
On Thursday afternoon, a robin visited our classroom so we decided to make him a lovely bird house for outside. We hope he will visit us again but this time outside!
