A very busy Friday!
16 Nov 2022
In class one this week, we have been very excited for Friday as we had a non-uniform day for Children in Need and a science workshop.
We started the day by coming together with the rest of the school and spending time in our coloured teams. It was lovely to see everyone in their bright, spotty clothes! We did some different activities and learnt about Children in Need. We found out about the hard work the charity does then got creative with some colouring and drawing.
After lunch, we had our Love Science workshop which was brilliant! The children really enjoyed learning more about materials through the different experiments we carried out.
We began by testing to see whether things were magnet. Using a magnet, we went around the room to find things. Then we used a special wire to see whether things around the room conduct electricity. There are two properities of materials.
After that, we used a pipette to add oil to water. We noticed that the bubbles sank to the bottom. Once we had added lots, they sat at the bottom so we added a tablet which made it fix, some bubbles moved upwards and some down to the bottom. We then added a second tablet and it fizzed quietly. This created a lava lamp.
Next we looked at acids and alkais. We used a universial indicator to test them out. After we added them together. The liquid changed colour.
Finally, we used a mystery material and squashed it down. We then added some orange liquid, it crystalised and absorbed the liquid so we could hold it over our head!
Next week in Science, we will be using plastic bottles so if you have any space please could we ask that you send them in.
Have a lovely weekend!
