Spring 1 - Week 3
20 Jan 2022
This week in Class 1...
We began with our 'magic box' and in it was a penguin!
He brought with him a book called Lost and Found by Oliver Jeffers. We found out that some penguins live at the South Pole on Antarctica and thought about how we would get there.
We made some boats to take the penguin home.
We looked at an atlas to find where the South Pole is and found that it was at the bottom of the globe. We looked at what it was like and there are only a few animals who live there. We drew some of our own maps too.
We thought about what we would pack to take on our journey to the South Pole including the clothes we would need as it is very cold there and covered with ice and snow.
We would pack... coat, gloves, scarf, hat, umbrella (the penguin took one of these!), fish for the penguin, food and toys - in case we got bored on the journey!
In phonics this week we have met some new digraphs:
or ur ow oi
We also have some new tricky words:
my by all
In maths, we have been doing some more fantastic calculation work and also explored the scales to weigh and compare different items. We used language of heavier, lighter and balance to describe what we see. We had lots of fun comparing all sorts of things from our classroom!
Next week we are hoping to make some rain guages. If you have any plastic bottles, please send them in. We also enjoy recycling boxes and tubes in our creative area too! Thank you
Have a lovely weekend!
