Sunflowers and Superworms!
22 Apr 2021
This week in Class 1...
Today we have begun a sunflower challenge! First we shared the story Ten Seeds by Ruth Brown and discussed what happens in the story to the seeds.
Then we had to find the right sized pots using a measuring tool we all have on our body! After that we counted 10 pots and 10 seeds.
We filled the pots with compost to help our seed grow and gave them a little water. Over the coming weeks we will be looking after our seeds and watching to see what happens.
We have been retelling the stories that we have shared in class and thought about sequencing events and story language too!
We shared an information book about 'Yucky worms' and found out lots of interesting facts...
"Worm poo helps plants to grow"
"Worms do not have eyes"
"Worms wiggle underground and it helps the roots to stretch out and water to get into the soil"
In phonics we have met the new grapheme ure
We have now come to the end of introducing the phase 3 graphemes and have been revisiting them and practising segmenting words into phonemes for writing and blending phonemes into words for reading.
In maths this week we have been continuing to explore numbers and counting through stories. We have also been using the language of addition and subtraction and recording this in part whole diagrams and number sentences.
Have a lovely weekend everyone, See you all on Monday
