Hello Reception Class of 2020!
12 Jul 2020
Welcome to transition week!
If you are currently in Reception class, go to the Class 2 page - Mrs Micklefield is really excited to welcome you into her class as Year 1 children!
Do you know it is only 8 weeks until we can meet each other! I am very excited to meet you all
Each day this week I am going to be putting a selection of activities on our class page for you to complete at home. These activities will help us to get to know each other a little bit more.
You can choose to do any of these activities or all of them if you have time. I would love to hear from you so let me know which activity you enjoyed: class1@gfschools.co.uk
Don’t forget, if you haven’t seen me already, there is a video from me to you and I have read some stories for you too. You can find them on the homework tab on the Class 1 page. Also, if you want to have a chat you can ask your grown ups to arrange a video call
Today the activities are all about you!
Birthday celebrations
In class 1 we will have a ‘birthday train’ display where each carriage is a different month of the year - do you know what month your birthday is in? What date is it?
I would like you to choose a cupcake, balloon or present to decorate. Write your name on the front and ask a grown up to help you to add the date of your birthday then it can join the birthday train! If you choose to make a picture for the birthday train, it needs to be A6 (1/4 of an A4 page).
Playing with food!
You don’t normally get to play with your food but I thought it might be fun to make a picture with it. Maybe a fruity face or some vegetable flowers! What shapes can you see? How many pieces of each fruit have you used? What is your favourite fruit or vegetable… can you guess what mine is? It is a small red fruit, it is shaped like a heart, it has seeds on the outside, its name begins with ‘S’
Story time!
Today I have read Elmer and the Hippos for you to listen to. It is a story about helping others.

Play dough
Can you make your name using playdough? Try rolling a sausage for each letter of your name and then mould them into each letter shape.
This is my name in play dough (my little boy likes to mix the colours together so sadly I couldn't make it nice and colourful!) – I made a picture of an insect too, can you see what it is?
Get moving!
Play the ‘pack a bag’ relay game
You will need a bag and some toys. Choose some of your favourite toys (you can choose as many as you want). Put them in a line in your garden if the weather is nice and the bag at the end. You need to run to the first toy, run back to the bag and put it in. Run to the second toy then bring it back and put it in the bag. Repeat until you have packed all of your toys. You could challenge someone else in your house to a race.
