Thursday 7th May
Good Morning Class One!
I hope you are having a good week. I loved seeing 'Max The Little Monster' pictures yesterday!
Look! I have found a fun song for us to join in with.
Helpful Hands!
Well done for helping your grown-up yesterday.
Look at these helpful hands!
Your job today is to:
Plant a seed! Maybe you could eat a healthy snack this morning
and plant a seed from your apple or orange, to put on a warm sill or greenhouse?
Talk about what your seed needs, its life-cycle, care for it and enjoy watching it grow!
Phonics
Look at this fantastic writing!
Perhaps you could listen to the alphabet song below, to practise your letter names? (Mums and Dads, as it's an American version, I need your best singing, to drown out 'zee' with 'zed'!!).
←
Could you help Fred the Ted to make our own letter names powerpoint? You could send me some pictures or even video clips, to show me your pictures and tell me your letter names and their sounds. You can choose any letters.
Maths
Perhaps today you could play catch, passing a football, shooting a basket ball,
to practise counting up to 10 and back or even up to 20 and back, for a challenge!
You could practise finding 2 more/less than a number today. Why not use this template to make a board game? Or use cushions in your living room to make a life-size board game or even think of a way to make a life-size game outside. Each time you roll the dice, move two more spaces than the number you roll. You could add in some squares where you move two less than the number on the dice.

Projects
Here are some projects for this week:
The project this week aims to provide opportunities for your child to learn more about the environment. Learning may focus on changes to different environments, the impact of humans on environments, climate change etc .
Recycling/ Exploring Materials
Provide your child with a selection of packaging to sort into groups to recycle. Can they identify plastic, paper, card, metal.
Create your own rain cloud
Use a plastic container with a lid (e.g. a water bottle) and make small holes on one side. You could stick on cotton wool to decorate. Fill the container with water and watch as the water drips out
Weather sounds (Rainmakers)
Provide your child with either a plastic container, bottle or other junk modelling item. Pour in a spoon or two of rice or lentils and secure with a bottle lid or sellotape. Decorate with stickers, glitter and sequins if you have them available. Have fun exploring making rain sounds.
Ice
Watch the ‘Frozen' song, 'In Summer’. Discuss with your child what they think will happen to Olaf when it gets warm. Support your child to fill up ice cube trays or plastic containers, if ice cube trays are not available, and freeze. Once frozen, take them out and explore how quickly they melt: in your hands, in the fridge, on the windowsill and when blown with the hairdryer. Make some ice-lollies.
Search on Google Maps for the UK. Discuss with your child the colour of the land and sea. Scroll up to look at the Arctic. Discuss why the land looks different in the Arctic, because the land is covered in ice and snow. Discuss the differences in temperature in the UK and the Arctic. Look at a picture of an igloo on google. Fill an ice cube tray with water and when frozen take out and support your child to create their own igloo out of the ice cubes.
Have a lovely day today and remember to look after one another.
