Class 3- The impact of Pentecost

18 May 2022

This week in Class 3 we wanted to share our RE work with you. Our big question this half term is
'For Christians, after Jesus left what was the impact of the Pentecost?'

We began by looking at what the Pentecost was and found out
  •  It was a Christian celebration
  • Took place 50 days after Easter Sunday
  • Is known as the birthday of the church
  • Pentecost is when the Holy Spirit appeared to the disciples after Jesus had died. It appeared as a strong wind and fire. On this date 3000 people were baptised.
Once we understood what Pentecost was we then looked at the Holy Spirit. The children remembered their previous learning about the Trinity and made the connection between God and the Holy Spirit. The children watched a video and discussed how the Holy Spirit helps Christians in their lives. We drew symbols which Christians use to represent the Holy Spirit and we wrote our own acrostic poems.

The children also thought about how the Holy Spirit helps people.
We then looked at the Kingdom of God, whether it is a physical place, who is its leader and what it's like. We looked at the values of the Kingdom and looked in detail at the Lords Prayer.

We looked at different examples of Pentecost artwork, the children came up with questions that they had about the art, they expressed their opinions about it and thought about which parts of the story they could see or were missing. We created an emotions graph based on how the disciples felt at different times and we reflected about times in our own lives when we have felt those emotions.

This week we thought about what would have happened if the Pentecost had not happened. The children thought lots of people might have forgotten or no longer in believe in Jesus or God. Less people would be christened and Christianity wouldn't be like it is today, if it even existed at all. As Christians see Pentecost as the birthday of the church the children researched how Christians celebrate this time of year.
We finished this RE unit by reflecting on the big question and the children recorded their ideas in their books.

Have a lovely weekend
