Class 3 - RE

01 Apr 2022

This week the children have been working really hard it has been assessment week so they have been busy trying their best and showing us what they can do. Alongside assessments in English and Maths we have done lots of Science and RE, as well as  PE, Computing, PSHE, French and Music.

Our big question in RE this half term has been ‘Why do Christians call the day Jesus died Good Friday?’ Our work began with the children demonstrating their initial thoughts to the question. There was lots of discussion around the idea that it isn't a good day as Jesus died and that is not a good thing, it is a sad thing. The children were very respectful when listening to other people's opnions.

We then looked at the events of Holy Week in lots of detail to ensure we were all confident with what happened on which day. As part of this work we created timelines and wrote diary entries as if we were Jesus’ mother Mary. The children did some super work and really thought how Mary would have felt on Palm Sunday, Good Friday and Easter Sunday. They also remebered the features of diary writing from their English work.

We looked at the different crosses that Christians may use at Easter time and discussed why each one was used on a given day.

This week saw us create some fantastic tripytch artwork based on the emotions Christians may feel during Holy Week and when in our own lives we may feel joy, sadness and hope.

Finally we revisited the big question ‘Why do Christians call the day Jesus died Good Friday?’ and the children wrote their answers some suggestions included that the word good also can mean holy, that Jesus knew and accepted he was going to die so we shouldn't be sad and that Christians believe that good came from Jesus' death to restore humanity. They remebered that Christians beleive Jesus died for sins and so that we can be with God in heaven.

Have a lovely weekend and see you next week.
Thank you for your support with the homework it is great that so many of the children are doing all their homework each week.
