Buddhism and Sports day!
27 Jun 2024
This week started with a trip to the Madhyamaka Kadampa meditation centre. Over the past year we have been learning about the Buddhist religion and the beliefs of those who follow it. We spent some time before the trip using our research skills to find out about the key beliefs and the origin of the religion.
During our time on the trip we spent time listening to a Buddhist nun speak about what it is like to live at the centre. We spent some time looking at the shrine and asking questions about the significance of the different images and statues and learning about the 7 bowls of water to represent different offerings to Buddha.
We had a guided meditation session which was very peaceful and helped us to calm ourminds and feel relaxed. We also acted out the story of Buddha and how his experience led to the teachings which Buddhists follow today.
On Thursday, we had our annual sports day. Mr Whitford began by explaining the activities for the carousel and we were very keen to get started!
After the carousel, we had our races. We got into our colour teams and cheered each other on to have ago and do our best. A favourite was the water race at the end - we all got a bit wet!
Have a lovely weekend,
