What was it like to be a monk at Fountains Abbey?

We have continued finding out about the lives of monks at Fountains Abbey. We have been gathering the facts that we learnt from our research in books and the internet, along with the information we found when we visited the Abbey.

This week, we considered the question ‘Why were the monks so successful?’ We have realised that the monks were very resourceful and hard working and there were several reasons why they had such huge success.
We decided to pretend to be a monk for a day! We used the knowledge that we have learnt to write diary entries for one day in the life of a monk:
Next week, we will be focussing on why the monks were forced to leave Fountains Abbey and what happened during the dissolution of the monasteries.
We’re also looking forward to our Archaeology Day on Tuesday, when will explore whether there are any clues about the past in our school field. Please remember to bring some old trainers or wellies and some spare trousers that you don’t mind getting dirty.
