Poetry, PE and Online safety
24 Apr 2024
Over the last couple of weeks we have been looking at poetry in our writing unit. We began by reading the poem 'The Sound Collector'. We thought about the features of the poem including verses, a repeated refrain, alliteration and rhyme. We then cut up the poem and matched the different themes to each verse to help us to get a better understanding of its structure.
In our sentence stacking lessons, we used some of the themes to create our own verses based on our own poem 'The Colour Collector'. We followed a structure for each verse and used onomatopoeia, adjectives, and rhyme to explore techniques and add interest to our writing. Next week we are going to write our own poems about all the colour in the world using the skills we have been practising.
In PE with Mr Whitford this half term we are covering athletics. We have been developing our stamina for running over longer distances and also the different techniques involved with running short distances. We will be looking at other aspects of athletics over the coming weeks too.
In PE on Fridays, we are learning the skills involved in playing tennis. We have been exploring holding the racket to balance and control the ball both working individually and in pairs.
On Wednesday we had Tim Pinto in school talking to us about online safety. He explained some of the risks that we may face online and the things that we can do to help keep ourselves safe.
Next week:
Tuesday - Trip to Fountains Abbey
Wednesday - Family service in school 2.45pm
Have a lovely weekend,
Miss Wray & Mrs Micklefield
