Writing and Christmas!
14 Dec 2023
This week in Class 2...
We have had another busy week in class this week. We had a lovely Christmas dinner yesterday and enjoyed some festive tunes in our Christmas jumpers too, all while raising money for Martin House.
We have come to the end of our writing unit based on the book 'A life electric: Nikola Tesla'. We spent a lot of time using different lenses to develop our writing and including tools such as metaphor and repetition within our work about the life of Nikola Tesla.
In our independent write, the year 3 children focused on the current shareholder of the Tesla company - Elon Musk to write their own biographys while the Year 4 children chose their own famous person.
We began by using the computers to research information about these people. We selected 4 aspects from the shapes used in a non fiction text in order to structure our own writing. Following this, we added our research into the relevant sections and thought about the different lenses we might try to include.
An important part of writing is the editing process. Once we had written our biography we edited it with a partner to check it makes sense and add or change anything that we can improve on.
We have also been busy with some poetry writing this week too with the theme of Christmas. We will be sharing some of these at the carol service next Thursday!
In maths, we have been working on multiplication and division. We realised how useful our times table knowledge is when working on these calculations! Alongside our mental recall knowledge, we have been considering other ways that can help us to visualise a multiplication or division problem so that we can work out the answer. Pictures of the objects grouped into an array helped us to work out the calculations as well as making groups with practical resources such as cubes and counters.
Year 4 also used number lines to calculate both multiplication and division number sentences:
