Art week in Class 2
09 Nov 2023
This week has been art week in Class 2.
We began by looking at the work of the artist Kandinsky. We researched his work and looked at his style of art including shape and colour use.
We decided to base our work around the theme of Bonfire Night and
tested different techniques. After this we created patterns to represent our fireworks.
We made our firework images using circles in pastel then used a paint colour wash over the top to produce the final effect. These were then assembled onto black card.
The final step to complete our pictures was to create a skyline with buildings. We used a silver wax crayon with a ruler to make different shaped and sized buildings. once this was finished, we cut the outline and stuck to the bottom of our pictures to build the whole firework scene.
In English we have started a new writing unit based on Nikola Tesla. We are building up to writing our own non fiction text and so began by finding the shape of a piece of non fiction text. On Thursday we had an experience day where we split into 3 groups and completed different activities. We were introduced to the book 'A life electric: The story of Nikola Tesla'. We used a thesaurus to find different words to describe a candle, lightbulb and electrical circuit. We explored the features of a Tesla car and thought about adjectives to describe these cars. We are enjoying this unit so far!
In PE with Mr Whitford this half term we are learning about health related fitness. This week we did a circuit of activities which consisted of burpees, ladder run, step ups, lunges, sit ups, bounce jumps, skipping and plank. We kept a record of how many we could do in 45 seconds and we are going to revisit this in the final week to see if our scores have changed. We noticed that our heart rate, breathing and temperature were raised following our bodies being active.
Next week is another busy week:
