Autumn and RE
19 Oct 2023
This week in Class 2…
In English we have started a new unit called ‘Autumn is here’
We began by looking at the poem ‘Summer is here’. We listened to the poem and then spent some time finding the shape of the poem. We did this by looking at the verses and thought about what each verse was telling us. Each verse had a different theme and we used a cut up version to match the shape to each verse.
Next we had an experience day – we went for a walk around our school grounds looking for signs of autumn. Some of us had collected different items from around our houses and brought these in to share too.
In the classroom we explored the items and created our own autumn pictures with paint and colour mixing to produce our ideas.
Our sentence stacking lessons have been based around some of the themes which we liked best from the lesson on finding the shape of the original poem. We wrote about nature, fruit, sky and personification in our own verses.
Next week we will be writing our own poems!
In RE we have been exploring the big question – ‘What is it like to follow God?’ We used the story of Noah’s Ark from the bible to learn about how Noah followed God and what this teaches Christians. We also thought about promises made by God and Noah in this story. Following this we explored the promises made at a wedding and related to our prior knowledge of christenings.
We finished our unit by thinking about how Noah made a change in the world. We researched inspirational people who have changed the world and thought about how we can make a change by the little things we do.
Only 1 week to go of our first half term in Class 2!
Next week –
Thursday – after school football match against Grewelthorpe for selected children
Friday – break up at 3pm
Have a lovely weekend,
