Greek Pots and the First Olympics, Harvest and Maths

Looking after our mental health:
This week, we discussed the importance of taking care of our mental health. One of the ways that we can take care of ourselves is to share problems or worries by talking to someone. We thought about the importance of talking about how you're feeling and to check-in with someone you care about. We have brought home some 'talking' homework to share with our families at home.
The First Olympics:
In our history work, we focussed on the ancient Greek Olympics. We learnt that one of the ways that we know about the ancient Greeks is by looking at the pictures that they painted onto their pottery. We looked at some pictures of ancient Greek pottery, then created our own designs:
We used books and computers to find more information about the first Olympic games. We realised that many of the events in the modern day Olympics also first took place in ancient Greek times:

The Ancient Greek Alphabet
We enjoyed being codebreakers by working out some words written in ancient Greek letters. Then, we had a go at writing some words in ancient Greek letters. This was tricky because the two alphabets don't have all the same letters, so for some of the words we had to use a 'best fit' letter:

We enjoyed preparing for the Harvest Collective Worship and thought about the importance of giving thanks for all that we have.
In maths, our current focus is addtion and subtraction. Year 3 are working hard on adding and subtracting three digit numbers whilst Year 4 are challenging themselves with numbers into the thousands.
Happy Weekend everyone!
See you on Monday.
