Week 3 in Class 2!
20 Sep 2023
This week we begin by saying WELL DONE to the Class 2 football team who won all of their games at this weeks football tournament at Outwood Academy and have progressed to the final! We are very proud of your acheivement and hope that you enjoyed yourselves
Over the past few weeks in English we have been using the book 'Theseus and the Minotaur' as our stimulus. Each day we have explored a different plot point from the story and used different language techniques to write our own sentences.
First we looked at story opening and character introductions, after that we met the Minotaur. We enjoyed describing this mythical beast by looking at images and developing our ideas.
Next we met Theseus and thought about the type of character he was and wrote about what he decided to do. We used a video clip of an ancient Greek ship to help us to create action phrases and also included dialogue.
Finally, there was a proposal and the hero of the story defeated the beast. We used simile, alliteration and onomatopoeia to add interest and effect to our writing.
We ended the week with our own labyrinth to navigate - we found our way and found positive and negative cards along the way such as "you dodge the Minotaur as he lunges towards you" and "you trip into the path of the Minotaur". Each positive card gave us points and the negatives took them away. The aim was to leave the maze with the most points and defeat the Minotaur!
Next week we are going to be writing our own myth using the different writing tools we have explored during this unit.
In PSHE we are working on the unit 'Being me in my world'. As part of our PSHE lessons we begin the year by making a class charter which we all agree to. We thought about how we work together and what makes a happy working classroom environment. We spent lots of time discussion which was the most important rule from our charter - it was difficult as we felt they were all important.
We had fun getting to know each other a little better with a game of meet and greet bingo where we had to find people we had things in common with. We then looked at images of people and discussed the language of included and excluded and how it feels in these situations.
Next week:
Monday - Greek day
Thursday & Friday - PE, please make sure you bring your kit in on these days.
Friday - Times table test, remember to do your homework!
Have a lovely weekend,
Miss Wray & Mrs Micklefield
