Class Three- Art Week
01 Dec 2022
This week has been art week in school, alongside lots of our usual lessons we have spent time focusing on the art skill of printing.
During the week we looked at 2 artists who have created pieces of artwork using printing.
Andy Warhol
Pablo Picasso
Firstly we looked at Andy Warhol’s Coca Cola Print. We talked about how he used silkscreen printing to create this piece of art. We focused on the way the images of each bottle were arranged and explored other layouts too. We then looked at string printing as a way to take one image and make several copies. We all created several simple design sketches and chose the one we thought was best to create using string and cardboard. We then printed our image in the style of Warhol's Coca Cola image.
We then looked at Picasso’s Portrait of a woman after Cranarch the younger to create this image Picasso used linoprinting, a type of relief printing. This involves gauging out lines and shapes in Lino. We replicated this but in an easier and safer way of using styrofoam. Again we created sketches in our books before we transferred our best idea onto a piece of styrofoam. We then used our styrofoam block to create a relief print and practised this method of printing. Once we had tried out both techniques we were given the brief of creating a Christmas card using one of the methods of printing. We came up with an idea and wrote about how we would create it. Then got busy creating our print.
Here are some of our finished pieces.
Next week we are just going to finish them off by adding some decorations using another print to layer on top.
Have a lovely weekend
