Class Three Bronze Age Biscuit Sculpture
06 Oct 2022
After looking at the Stone Age for the last few weeks we have now moved our focus to the Bronze Age. On Wednesday we looked at how life changed between the two ages, in particular how their tools and settlements changed. The children understood this was a change over time and not something which suddenly switched as we went from Stone Age to Bronze Age. During the lesson we looked closely at photos of Bronze Age artefacts and the children answered questions about each of them.
On Thursday and Friday our lessons focused on Stone Henge and finding out why it was important to the Bronze Age people. We learnt that Stone Henge was built over 1500 years, it is on Sailsbury Plain in Wiltshire and that they created using their hands and simple tools. The children explored the different theories around Stone Henge including; burials, healing powers, worship and its use as a calendar.
As well as finding out lots of facts about Stone Henge the children used biscuits to create their own Stone Henge sculptures. We enjoyed getting sticky and trying hard to ensure our sculptures stayed stood up. Once we had all created our Stone Henges we got to eat a biscuit.
We finished our lesson with a quiz to see what the children could remember about Stone Henge. Each of the groups correctly answered all of the questions.
As well as our theme work we have been working hard in other subjects, in RE we have been thinking about another big question 'What is the Trinity?' The children have looked at examples of art and texts which describe God as the Trinity.
In maths we have been continuing to learn about place value and in English we have moved onto recounts.
Have a lovely weekend.
