Class Three- Plant Investigation
13 Jul 2022
Over the past few weeks and until the end of the year we are having a focus on Science. The science unit we are looking at is plants. So far in this unit the children have been able to identify and describe the function of the four main parts of a flowering plant; roots, stem, leaves and flower.
In small groups the children then set up an investigation to see what different plants needed to survive. Their investigations included answering the following questions; Can a plant grow without any light and will a plant survive if watered with hot water? The children came up with their own questions and predictions, they wrote up their equipment, method and results. They then used their results to draw a conclusion and checked to see if their prediction was correct.
We then looked very closely at the flower on the plant and we learnt the names and jobs of all the parts of the flower.
We looked at Pollination and the children were able to correctly order the process.
Then we looked at the life cycle of a flowering plant.
This week we have been carrying out further investigations and observations linked to plants.
We investigated the best conditions to help cress germinate and we found that warm and wet were the best conditions for cress to grow.
Finally we observed how plants transport water, using white flowers and food dye.
We are ready for our last week as Year 3s and 4s. Next week is Mrs Lewis' last week, her last day will be Wednesday.
Have a lovely weekend
