Class 3- Fountains Abbey
28 Apr 2022
Welcome back! We hope you all had a lovely Easter Break.
This week in Class 3 we have started lots of new learning. In Maths with Miss Rogers we are looking at money, in RE we have a new big question 'For Christians, when Jesus left what impact did the Pentecost have?' We began by thinking about what the Pentecost is and found out it is special celebration for Christians where the Apostles experience the Holy Spirit, just as Jesus had said would happen, and 3000 people were baptised.
In Theme this half term we are focusing on history and our big question for this is 'What would life have been like living at Fountains Abbey?' We began this work by sharing what we already knew about Fountains Abbey and generating questions which we wanted to find the answers to.
We then created a timeline combining both key events in British history and those in Fountains Abbey's history. This allowed us to understand when Fountains Abbey was built and what was happening in the country at that time.
Then to finish our week we combined history and geography and looked at why Fountains Abbey was built in the location it was. We looked at where Fountains Abbey is on the map, what geographical features are around it and why they may have chosen to build the abbey here. We spent time focusing on how they made use of the River Skell and we traced the river from source to sea.
Please find here and also on the curriculum tab of the Class 3 area of the website copies of our Summer timetable and Long term Plan.
We have arranged a school trip to Fountains Abbey for Friday 13th May, more details will follow next week.
Have a lovely weekend.
