Ramadan Afternoon
Last week we enjoyed another afternoon focusing on our World Religion - Islam. The children showed that they remembered a lot from Imran's visit, and they were able to talk really well about the 5 pillars of Islam and the importance of prayer and the mosque. We explored this even further by learning and researching more about Ramadan.
The children learnt that Ramadan was in fact the name of the 9th month of the Islamic Lunar calendar. This is a very holy and sacred month for Muslims as many take part in a month long fast. The children learnt that this meant some Muslims did not eat or drink for up to 16 hours in a day. The children learnt about why Muslims choose to do this and how it helped believers to fell closer to Allah, their God. It is a pleasure to watch the children when they are learning about world faiths and practices. The children are very open minded and respectful and most of all full of interest and questions about how differently we all live.
The children recorded their learning about Ramadan in their world religions notebook. This is a journal of their learning which the children will keep throughout their school lives. It will be a real treasure trove of information by the time they leave Fountains!
Sublime Science
Many thanks to all the parents who contributed to this science day. The school was bubbling with excitement as Cosmic Catherine brought science to life with some absolutely fascinating experiments and demonstrations. Our class enjoyed their workshop with Catherine as we learnt so much and saw some really cool sceince in action! Some of our favourites were the Thunderdrum, smoke bubbles, an air catapult, making slime and also making our own sherbert... It was such a jam packed hour!
