What do Christians Learn from the Creation Story?
Our learning focus in RE this term is to explore the question
What do Christains Learn from the Creation Story? We began by reflecting on our own thoughts about the natural world. We shared personal experiences and ideas of moments where we have experienced a wonderful world - we thought about big events and smaller miracles. We recorded these ideas creatively in our books using words and pictures. We then had a look on the internet for pictures that also represented our wonderful world. I was super impressed by the children's computer skills in copying and printing the images they loved.
Our learning journey then moved on to explore the story of creation in more detail through exploring the question Why did God make Humans? The children were familiar with the events of Genesis from their learning in Year 2. But we exteneded our thinking beyond the events of the creation, to also think about the guidance Chirstians believe the Bible story gives and the role of Adam and Eve.
We challenged our own ideas about what the bible had said with a class discussion before then writing a letter to humans to give them guidance on how to look after the earth. The Children's awareness of global issues is great and they were keen to offer some sage advice!
This week we have moved on to consider the question How are Christians caretakers for the world? To explore this question the children explored how Christians put the guidance from the Genesis story into action in real life by reseaching different Christians and Christian groups who work hard to protect and respect Gods Creation.
Research is always tricky and needs lots of different skills to be able to read the information, understand, and then record in your own words, but the children showed their good learning skills and worked hard to find out as much as they could. We will be sharing our findings next week.
