Class Three Amazing Writing

Instruction Writing
Since returning to school we have focused on i
nstructional writing. We first thought about the
purpose of instructions and then considered how knowing this then helps us to understand
how we should be writing our own . The children quickly learnt that instructions are designed to help people achieve something, so therefore when they wrote their own instructions, they would need to be really clear so the reader could easily understand and follow them.
Class Three then learnt about the grammar that they would need to use in their writing - so we explored imperative verbs -also informally known as bossy verbs, and time adverbials using commas. The children were all brilliant applying their learning- they are obviously a bit bossy already as they did particularly well with the imperative verbs.
We then had fun making some models from egg boxes. The children re-crafted the boxes to make animals, vehicles and even a volcano! They were all very creative builds and the children persevered well to overcome any problems they had whilst making.
Finally, we wrote instructions for other children to make their own egg models like ours. As you can see from their work below, they have done an amazing job putting everything they learnt into practice in their writing! We are going to have a last look at them next week to do some purple pen work. This is where we edit and improve any errors in punctuation, grammar or spelling, but also edit our work to improve how it sounds or to ensure it makes sense when we read it again with fresh eyes!
