17.9.21 Back into the swing of it!
17 Sep 2021
Well, it is the end of another busy, fun packed week of learning! The children have settled into 'Team' Class 3 and have relaxed into the post-bubble routine. So proud of them all!
This week we have had to elect our School Council members, two from each year group. The children understand that these representatives will be their voice in all matters relating to changes and improvements within school. The council will meet regularly and the representatives will feedback from those meetings to the class. We know that the Class 3 members will do an amazing job!
The children have been given their first homework tasks for this half term. Homework each week comprises of spelling, writing sentences, learning times tables (using the cards and TT Rockstars) and daily reading.
The children have been placed into spelling groups - Butterflies, Ladybirds or Dragonflies - and each week they will have nine words to learn. They need to know how to spell each word, but also, what it means and how to use it in sentences, hence the sentence writing aspect to the homework. We encourage children to look up dictionaries if they do not know the meaning of a word. Spelling tests are on a Monday when new lists will be given out.
It is essential that the children develop fluency in their knowledge of times tables. You will have read the sheet explaining how to use the cards to assist your child in improving their speed and accuracy. The children should also now have a login for TT Rockstars which is a fantastic, fun way for the children to be challenged. Let's see if we can find any Rock Legends in our class! Times tables tests are every Friday and new cards will be issued on a Monday.
Last but certainly not least, it is our expectation that children are reading daily at home. Regular reading increases fluency, understanding and encourages a love of reading which is so important for our children. We will be asking the class to take their books and reading records backwards and forwards in their bags to and from school. Please complete the reading journal with any reading completed or encourage your child to complete it. We appreciate that children will be reading other books at home which can also be entered in the journal if they plan to complete an AR quiz in school.
If you have any questions at all then please speak to us either at the end of the day or make an appointment through the office.
Enjoy your weekend!
