We are Class Three
09 Sep 2021
We have had a wonderful first week back in school! All the children have settled in quickly and are already using many of their fantastic learning behaviours! We have had a lot of fun this week getting to know each other and learning the new routines for this new school year. I think both children and adults are very relieved to be without bubbles so we can now share our playtimes and Lunchtimes with Class 4 and are able to join together as a school in our time of Collective Worship.
Below is a copy of our current timetable and also a welcome letter which outlines for parents some of the key information about routines and expectations in Class 3. (You will also recieve these in paper copies on Monday.)

Big Question
This big question will underpin our learning themes this half term. We will explore this idea in our history topic of Ancient Greece, within our English sessions, Collective Worship and through our Art theme which is based on Pablo Picasso. The children have shared some thoughtful first responses to this really interesting idea!
We launched our new topic in style this week by creating a historical, re-enactment of the Ancient Olympic Games. The children learnt about the events that took place and we recreated some of the more suitable ones...We decided that we would leave out boxing and wrestling!
We also decided to allow the girls to take part with the boys and for all the children to keep their clothes on, despite learning that in Ancient Greece the competitors were all male and all competed naked!
We entered in our city state teams and walked around the arena with our Olympic flame held high. The children then took part in all the activities with great enthusiasm and sportsmanship! We are going to be learning much more about the details of the games, but this was such a fun way to begin our enquiry.
The most popular race by far was the chariot race. Look at the determination!
The children also took part in javelin, discus and running races! The winning athletes all carried away an olive crown and became instant celebrities, just as the Ancient Greek competitors did.
The running race was a particularly hard faught battle. Congratulations to all the children for taking part in all the races so brilliantly!
Have a wonderful restful weekend! We look forward to seeing you all again on Monday.
