Magnificent Mummies
29 Apr 2021
Well we have had another brilliant week in Class Three. I think we have given out a record number of Dojos, all for wonderful work and displaying our learning behaviours. The new class monitors are getting into their stride now and they are a great asset to help our class run well! Everyone is really organised and accept their responsibilities with great enthusiasm.
The big event this week has been our Egyptian virtual workshop. Despite some technical issues, the children learnt a lot from seeing and hearing all about Nesyamun - the Ancient Egyptian mummy at Leeds city Museum. It was both fascinating and repulsive to hear about the process of embalming and mummification. When you look though the pictures of the afternoon you will see some of the looks of disgust and amazement!
It wasn’t all watching though as weto re-enacted some of the stages in embalming and some of the children even had a chance to try pulling some brain out! (This may also be why they don’t want to eat any spaghetti this week. Sorry!).
Learning by doing is something we always try and do and encourage so if you would like to have a go at your own mummification activities Emma, who hosted our workshop, sent through some great ideas to try. Take a look here:
On our Virtual visits page there is a section of Mummification activities which includes the films on mummifying an apple (which is quite good to do over a few weeks and the apple turns out fairly disgusting and very human looking which is excellent) and making scarab beetle dung balls to eat (chocolate truffles!)

Please do have a look though our two photo galleries as they give you a little taster of our afternoon! The children will be using what they learnt during their English sessions next week when they write a non-chronological report all about mummification. I look forward to sharing these with you then!
Have a wonderful bank holiday! Stay Safe x
