Ancient Egyptian Antics
23 Apr 2021
After another really busy week in school, I hope you all enjoy the beautiful sunshine and rest over the weekend.
Much of our learning this week has been around what the Ancient Egyptian civilisation was like – learning about their society and daily lives. It is incredible how many similarities there are between the way we live now and their lives all those thousands of years ago!
Have a look below at some of the fantastic information the children have recorded afterwards. We think a lot about how to present information clearly and it’s great to see the variety of approaches they have tried.
EXCITING NEWS…..
We have some big Egyptian news for Class Three. Next Thursday afternoon we are going to be hosting a virtual workshop all about Mummies. (Not the hugs and love kind, but the bandages and tombs kind!) The workshop is lead by curators from Leeds Museum and will be a wonderful opportunity for the children to learn about slightly gruesome process of mummification and help them to understand why the Ancient Egyptians did so much of it. I cannot wait! (Parents if you feel your children maybe affected by any of the content surrounding this subject, please do get in touch.)
In our reading session we also delved into the really fascinating world of Ancient Egyptian Religion – learning what Egyptians believed about the afterlife. We also have had a fantastic afternoon today when Egyptian Gods came to our field! The children worked in pairs to collect information about some of the more important Gods of that time using the tablets which they then used to create fact files. The children had a great time hunting for the Gods and worked hard to complete the work.
It is always lovely to see the children so engrossed in their own learning and I think this topic is really sparking their interest!
Have a lovely weekend, see you all again Monday.
