Busy First Week Back
15 Apr 2021
We have had a great first week back in Class Three. Everyone has come back to school ready and eager to learn! There have been lots of firsts this week as you would expect with a new term. In English we are reading a fantastic poetry book called The Emotional Menagerie. This is a collection of poetry that explores our emotions. We have looked at several of the poems this week, including Happiness, Anger, Boredom, Curiosity, Guilt and Worry. The children have also chosen one of the poems to perform for the class next week. They will be bringing this home to practice over the weekend. To be able to perform it well, they will need to learn their parts off by heart.
We took the opportunity to get outside on Thursday when we were practicing our poems. It was so nice to be in the sunshine learning together!
Another first was our first Jigsaw PSHE session. The children worked with Mrs Donaldson on Monday to create our class charter - a set of rules to follow in our sessions and discovered some great acheivements amongst the class!
We have also enjoyed meeting some of the characters - the jiggies, beginning to learn about calm me time and very importantly meet Paws- our class, cuddly cat, who will help us to take time to pause and refelct.
We also began our new topics in both RE and History.
We are learning about the Ancient Egyptians in history this term. Today the children have been detectives, looking at clues about what Ancient Egyptian life was like from several paintings that have been discovered in tombs across Egypt. The children worked well together and came up with some great thought. Our detective work also brought up many, many questions too! All of which I hope we can explore together both at home and school .
We also have thought a lot about when the Ancient Egyptian Civilization was, linking this to our learning about the Stone Age and pre history. They are doing really well understanding these vast amounts of time.
Our big question in RE is "What kind of world would Jesus like?" The children had some fantastic initial thoughts about these and we will be exploring these more over the next few weeks .
Wishing you all a peaceful and sunshine filled weekend. See you all again next week! Remember Monday and Tuesday for outdoor PE. Spelling test and times tables test on Monday.
