Class 3 Cross Country
20 Nov 2020
This Tuesday afternoon the children all took part in the interschool cross country event that normally sees us joining with other schools to race against each other. As is now the new normal we still took part just in our own bubbles and at our own venues! We were very impressed by the children's attitude and this is a message from message Mr Whitfield. "I was really impressed with how much effort, determination and encouragement the children showed in today's cross-country event! They all did really well." I would also echo every word, the children were all amazing and made themselves proud by showing true grit and determination.

This week in English we have been exploring descriptive language building on our work on adjectives and adverbs. We have looked at similes and onomatopoeia. Below are some of ideas we came up with.
Adjectives
Izzy- When I woke up I was in a gloomy, dark, spooky cave.
Aiden- I saw a big, greedy, fierce lion.
Similes
Oli- The blue fluffy jumper was as soft as a pillow.
Abbey- The cave was as dark as the night sky.
Eliza- The air was as thick as a warm duvet.
Edward- The monster was as black as night.
Onomatopoeia
Lauren- The raindrops went splash, splash, splash as they fell onto the floor.
Oliver- The rocks went boom when they fell to the ground.
Sam- The truck went crash as it rolled down the hill.
We then used these techniques to write character and setting descriptions based on our book the Stone Age Boy.
On an afternoon we have been greeting each other in French and practising counting to 10 and 20. We have started our Science block and are beginning with the topic ‘A world of living things’ This week already we have identified living and non-living things, sorted them into animals and plants. We then learnt about the 7 characteristics of living things, using MRS NERG to help us remember them. The children created actions to aid them further. Throughout this topic we will put our learning into a pop-up non-fiction book, so this week we used MRS NERG to create a lift the flap page.
Time Tables Rock Stars
Please remember to go onto TT to complete your times tables homework. We do expect all children to complete their 10 sessions at home during the week. They are rewarded well with Dojos for completing these activities as it is an invaluable way of practicing this very important skill!
Let us know if you are running into any issues with the program and we will help anyway we can!
Happy Birthday Hannah and have a good weekend everyone!
