Class Three - Whose Poo?? 5/10/20
07 Oct 2020
We have had another great week in Class three this week.
On Monday we had an exciting reading session as we revealed our new focus book. After the big reveal, the children did a fantastic job of predicting what the story might be about. They thought about the title, "The Wild Way Home," and then looked at the front cover for clues and hints about the characters, setting and plot. We are all very excited to start reading and discover if the predictions are correct!
Don't forget to complete your TT Rock Stars garage sessions to keep those times tables skills sharp and earn yourself some Dojos! Remember, you can put the sound on too and learn some rock tunes at the same time!
On Wednesday afternoon we turned into archaeologists. Our job to investigate what people ate during the Stone Age. How would we do this…?
By examining their poo!
After a bit of squirming and a lot of giggling the children set to work in pairs carefully dissecting and inspecting Stone Age poo. Each pair recorded their findings and then used this to reach conclusions about what they must have eaten and how they would have got this food.
We found that they ate seeds, berries, meat, bones, plans, leaves and grass. We then researched to find out what types of meat they ate and discovered that the meat they ate included mammoth, mouse, deer and wild pig.
We then went outside and all around our playground there were cards hidden showing different foods the Stone Age people might have eaten. We had to sort them into food that would be hunted and food that they would gather. All the food they would have eaten was gathered or hunted from the land around where they built their settlements.
As well as these exciting theme lessons we have also been researching Stone Age animals to create fact-files in English.
We have continued our work on coding in computing and were able to create more complex sequences this week. We added timers to our code and lots of us successfully made our character repeat its actions forever. In PE we explored our hockey skills; practising controlling the ball and travelling whilst dribbling the ball.
Have a lovely weekend.
