This week we have continued to show Miss Rogers and Mrs Lewis what we can do, this week we have shown them our skills in English. We have all done our next star reading assessments and our teachers were really impressed when they handed out our new ZPDs. We have also shown off our SPAG and comprehension skills.
We watched a short cartoon called ‘A ride of passage’ and have been using it is as a stimulus to create some super descriptions of the jungle and our own storyboards. We will be using this film again next week to inspire some more writing.

In Maths we have started our Maths No Problem lessons. With Miss Rogers we are looking at place value and counting in different numbers, e.g. 100s, 25s or 1000s. With Mrs Lewis we are looking at measuring length.
We also began our new topic ‘The Stone Age’ this week. Our learning began by finding out what we already knew and thinking about things we would like to find out about. We then unrolled an entire toilet roll around our classroom, to help us visualise the chronology of different events in History. Did you know the average roll has 200 sheets? Each sheet represented a period of time. We quickly realised how long the Stone Age had lasted compared to recent history and because the Stone Age lasted over such a long period of time it is split into three parts. We are working on learning the very long names for each period, but we know they can be called old, middle and new. We talked about how we were going to find out information about the Stone age as there aren't people around who were alive then. We even watched a short clip of 'The Flinstones' to show us the importance of not taking everything as true. We noticed in the film they had a pet dinosaur, drove a car and ate burgers all things we know weren't true.
We had PE with Mr Powell and French with Mrs Hebblewhite on Thursday afternoon.
This week spellings were given for the first time! This homework needs to be completed at home and returned to school on Tuesday next week. There is full guidance on what to do on the sheet, so hopefully everyone will come back to school feeling confident they know what the words mean and how to spell them when they have their test on Tuesday! If you have any difficulties please do get in touch with Mrs Lewis.
From next week, Children will also begin bringing maths homework home. This will be times tables focused and using our fabulous TT Rock Stars resource. For those new to this program don't worry, we will be using the site in school first so all children should feel confident to logon and have a go at home. (Year four are already Rock Stars!)
Please read the notification on the website about the new arrangments for dropping off and collecting your children at school.
Have a lovely weekend!
